Gradall Forklift Parts - During the time when WWII caused a scarcity of laborers, the well-known Gradall excavator was founded in the 1940s as the idea of two brothers Koop and Ray Ferwerda. Partners in a Cleveland, Ohio construction business referred to as Ferwerda-Werba-Ferwerda, the brothers faced a huge predicament when a lot of men left the labor force and joined the military, depleting existing laborers for the delicate finishing work and grading on highway projects. The Ferwerda brothers opted to build a machine which will save their company by making the slope grading job less manual, easier and more efficient.
Their initial design prototype was a device with two beams set on a rotating platform which was attached on top of a used truck. A telescopic cylinder moved the beams back and forth which allowed the fixed blade at the end of the beams to pull or push dirt. Soon improving the very first design, the brothers made a triangular boom to be able to add more strength. Furthermore, they added a tilt cylinder which let the boom turn 45 degrees in either direction. A cylinder was positioned at the rear of the boom, powering a long push rod to allow the machinery to be equipped with either a blade or a bucket attachment.
Gradall launched in 1992, with the introduction of the new XL Series hydraulics, the most ground-breaking adjustment in their equipment since their invention. This new system of top-of-the-line hydraulics enabled the Gradall excavator to deliver high productivity and comparable power to the more conventional excavators. The XL Series ended the initial Gradall equipment power drawn from gear pumps and low pressure hydraulics. These conventional systems successfully handled grading and finishing work but had a hard time competing for high productivity tasks.
The new XL Series Gradall excavators proved a significant increase in their lifting and digging ability. These models were made together with a piston pump, high-pressure hydraulics system that showed immense improvements in boom and bucket breakout forces. The XL Series hydraulics system was even developed along with a load-sensing capability. Traditional excavators use an operator to select a working-mode; where the Gradall system can automatically adjust the hydraulic power for the work at hand. This makes the operator's overall job easier and even saves fuel at the same time.
Once the new XL Series hydraulics became available in the market, Gradall was thrust into the very competitive industrial machine market that are designed to tackle excavating, demolition, pavement removal as well as various industrial work. The introduction of the new telescoping boom helped to further improve the excavator's marketability. The telescoping boom gives the excavator the ability to better position attachments and to work in low overhead areas.
